INSTALLATION OF CHICAGO CTA REDLINE STATION, 2014

Redline Granville Station, Chicago, IL
Client: Chicago CTA
Lead Artist: Kyungmi Shin
Hand cut Byzantine Mosaic
108'w x 105"h

Inspired by the rich architectural heritage of the Chicago region, the design for this mosaic artwork was created with layers of cutout shapes of buildings on Granville Avenue where the station is located. Using the same techniques used in the photo collages of the artist, the layered buildings create a visually complex layering of colors and shapes. The sweeping colorful paths behind the buildings represent the famous “wind” of the windy city as well as the fast growing dynamics of the Edgewater neighborhood.
