Shin Gray Studio is a two artist partner team of Kyungmi Shin and Todd Gray

Taking cues from natural and cultural context of the site, Shin Gray Studio creates public artworks that are not only visually striking but also meaningful in relation to the site and the community. Shin Gray Studio has created over 20 public artworks for a variety of private and public clients including Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago Transit Authority, Washington D.C. Schools, Los Angeles County Libraries, California Medical Hospital, and many others.

Shin Gray Studio recently completed a video sculpture for the new Netflix Headquarters on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA in 2018. Shin Gray Studio also completed fabrication for the El Cerrito ART Station for Northern California Bay Area Rapid Transit and will be installing in summer 2020. Todd gray was commissioned in 2019 to create artwork for the new La Cienega Station of Purple Line of Los Angeles Metro Transit. Kyungmi Shin was commissioned in 220 to create a light artwork for the Vietnamese American Service Center in San Jose, CA.

Kyungmi Shin is a visual artist working with painting, sculpture, and photography. She received MFA from UC Berkeley. Her works have been exhibited at Berkeley Art Museum, Sonje Art Museum, Korea, Japanese American national Art Museum, and Torrance Art Museum, and has received numerous grants including California Community Foundation Grant, Durfee Grant, Pasadena City Individual Artist Fellowship and LA Cultural Affairs Artist in Residence Grants. She has a solo exhibition planned for summer-fall 2020 at the Orange County Museum of Art, CA.

Todd Gray

Born in Los Angeles, Todd Gray received both his BFA and MFA from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Solo and group exhibitions include the Studio Museum, Harlem, NY; Whitney Biennial, NY; Pomona College Museum of Art, Claremont; USC Fisher Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Renaissance Society, University of Chicago; David Lewis, NY; Museum of the African Diaspora, San Francisco; National Portrait Gallery, London; Grand Palais, Paris among others. Performance works have been presented at institutions such as the Roy & Edna Disney Cal/Arts Theater, REDCAT; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. His work is represented in numerous museum collections: Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; National Gallery of Canada; Studio Museum in Harlem; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles among others. He was the recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2019, and of a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency, Italy  in 2016. Todd Gray’s photo based work explores issues of black masculinity, diaspora, and contemporary/historical examinations of power. Gray has presented this work in academic conferences at Yale and Harvard University. Gray works between Los Angeles and Ghana, where he explores the diasporic dislocations and cultural connections which link Western hegemony with West Africa.
